Intel XG310: Intel's first distinctive GPU for Data Centers is coming

Intel present its first distinct GPU for data centers, which is designed to power Android-based cloud games.

Τthe low power chip is called Intel Server GPU and the company plans to put it inside a new graphics card PCIe, so that companies can place it on their servers.

The product comes as the company expands into graphics cards, a market dominated by AMD and Nvidia. Intel has so far launched a distinctive GPU for laptops, the Iris Xe Max, and next year plans to sell its first exclusive gaming graphics card.

In the meantime, the manufacturer gives us a corporate quality graphics card, although it is designed for the sole purpose of cloud streaming. In terms of technical specifications, the card "XG310”Contains four Intel Server GPUs, 32GB memory RAM LPDDR4 and uses it PCIe 3.0. Each GPU has a base clock speed of 0,9GHz and the boost clock speed reaches 1,1GHz.

What sets the card apart is how it works with low TDP of 150 watts or less than half the card RTX 3080 of Nvidia, which has TDP at 320 watts. According to Intel, the product can help customers integrate their servers for a smaller footprint while keeping power costs low.

To demonstrate its capabilities, Intel says that XG310 can run 60 streams of mobile game simultaneously Arena of Valor at 30 frames per second, and 720p resolution. Adding another card can double the streams to 120, remaining at 30fps, 720p. Intel is aiming for four cards XG310 per server.

However, the product is partly aimed at a niche market. At USA, the cloud gaming has largely focused on transferring titles based on PCs and consoles rather than Android games. But the Intel has already found a significant customer for the product through Tencent, China's largest online gaming company.

For Tencent, the new card represents a solution that is "cost effective, high density and low latency", according by Allen Fang, Deputy General Manager of its cloud gaming platform Tencent, Xianyou.

Intel also says that the card XG310 can also power video streaming. At present, the company seems to sells the product through H3C, a Chinese IT provider. The goal is to promote the card alongside Intel Xeon chips focusing on servers.
