Η Huawei and Nova – Wind member of United Group, presented for the first time in Greece, a pilot fire detection program, the Wednesday 29 June, in Syngrou Grove

Τthis particular program is based on 5G technology, as well as the use of algorithms, artificial intelligence and robotic drones. The fire detection program is an early warning system for identifying extreme events, such as fires, using sensors and drones to address a problem with social, environmental and economic ramifications.

Sensors that interface with the event management platform and the drone were placed at strategic points in the park. The drone carries out planned surveillance flights as well as emergency flights in case of indications from the sensors. To detect smoke and/or fire, special algorithms are used which in real time analyze the image and send data to the Control Center highlighting the points of interest.

In case, through the camera, the drone detects smoke and/or fire, it sends an alert to the control center and rushes to the spot where the smoke was detected to confirm the event. Then the drone either returns to its base, or records the progress of the fire.

The result is the immediate determination of the starting point of the fire, the monitoring of remote areas in real time, the early visual detection of smoke and/or fire, the protection of human life and the limitation of exposure to hazards, as well as the monitoring of the evolution of the fire. fire.

Huawei, within the initiative of the Ministry of Development and Investments Elevate Greece, to create a National Register of Young Enterprises, collaborated with PROBOTEK and undertook the financing of the pilot program.

Η Nova–Wind participates as a telecommunications provider of connectivity coverage.

The startling business PROBOTEK, offers the early fire detection system solution.
The event for the presentation of the pilot program was attended by, among others, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, Minister of Development and Investments, George Georgantas, Minister of Rural Development and Food, Christos Dimas, Deputy Minister of Research and Technology, Ministry of Development and Investments, George Marios Karagiannis, Deputy General Secretary of Civil Protection, Kedzia Radoslaw, Vice President Huawei CEE & Nordic Region, Huawei Technologies, Nikolaos Lazaris, CEO of Huawei Greece, Panagiotis Georgiopoulos, CEO of NOVA-WIND, Georgios Delaportas, CEO/CIO, PROBOTEK, Dionysis Avg. Kyriakopoulos, President, Institute of Agricultural Sciences.

In the context of the greeting addressed by the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr. Georgios Georgantas, stressed:

It is important for our country that at a pilot level, for the first time, the possibilities offered by new technologies are being applied to the protection of the environment and especially to the protection of our national heritage. Because as a national heritage we must deal with the natural environment, the fauna and flora of our country. In this effort, cutting-edge technologies have a special role, as their contribution, not only to the protection of forests, but more generally to dealing with the adverse effects of the climate crisis, can be decisive.

I want to thank her Huawei of Greece and Nova - Wind, as through their collaboration they show the way to be followed in the field of preventive fire detection, but more generally and in regards to the protection of the environment and primary production.

At the same time, the Deputy Minister of Research and Technology, Mr. Christos Dimas said:

Her partnership Huawei and Nova-Wind with PROBOTEK presented an innovative fire detection pilot program leveraging 5G technology, artificial intelligence, algorithms and state-of-the-art drones. It is a system for early warning and identification of extreme events, such as fires, which, with the use of sensors and drones, is expected to contribute to dealing with phenomena with social, environmental and economic ramifications.

The business synergies of companies from the technology field with Elevate Greece's start-ups are a good example of how we can use the talent, ideas and human resources we have to respond to the challenges of our time, such as the climate crisis . Warm congratulations to the initiators and participants of the initiative, who fill us with confidence that the Greek innovation ecosystem now has the ability and the tools to achieve great collaborations and take the lead.

From his side, Mr. Dionysis Kyriakopoulos, President of Institute of Agricultural Sciences said:

The Institute of Agricultural Sciences manages the Syngrou Estate, which is one of the few green lungs of the Attica Basin. It covers an area of approximately 950 acres, while it is the only remaining natural forest in the wider area and the entire basin of Attica. It has been characterized as a landscape of special natural beauty (Government Gazette 968/1991) and the discovery of archaeological finds, and it is an area with free access for the public.

The 750 square meters are a forest of Aleppo pine and one of our main axes is the prevention of fires that have affected the country so much in recent years. In this context and in addition to the other preventive measures we take every summer, we were very pleased to collaborate with Huawei, Nova - Wind and PROBOTEK so that a pilot fire detection project using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a drone could be implemented in our area of supervision. is being held for the first time in Greece. We hope that this pilot program after its completion will be another weapon in the fire prevention quiver.

Ο Mr. Nikos Lazaris, Chief Executive Officer Huawei said:

At Huawei Greece, we firmly believe that cutting-edge technologies effectively contribute to addressing important issues for society and the environment. As official supporters of the Elevate Greece initiative of the Ministry of Development & Investments, we have already financially supported a start-up company operating in the field of Technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution and now PROBOTEK with the financing of this pilot program of preventive fire detection. We look forward to future collaborations with start-ups in key technological sectors for the benefit of society, the state and the natural wealth of our country.

Ο Mr. Panagiotis Georgiopoulos, Chief Executive Officer Nova & Wind stated: "The climate crisis is a reality and the protection of the country is a national issue. THE Nova - Wind, contribute to tackling the climate crisis with a thorough and diverse program, one aspect of which is fire detection through technology. The specific initiative in Alsos Syngrou is proof that through the 5G network and "smart" services, extreme events with economic, social and environmental impacts can be prevented. Public and private agencies participated in this action, showing that it is necessary to cooperate in order to protect our homeland".
