The General Court of the European Union confirmed that Google abused its dominant position as an Android provider, and fined it 4,1 billion
Η decision announced today is the latest development of the case that started in 2018, when the EU Competition Commission fined Google for unfair competition and monopolistic practices by pre-installing its applications-services on Android.
The court upheld the charge that originally alleged Google forced phone makers to pre-install the Chrome browser and Search app as part of a revenue-sharing scheme.
Today's court decision confirmed the vast majority of the original fine of 4,3 billion euros that had been imposed on Google , but disagreed with a part of the complaints, and therefore the fine was reduced to 4,1 billions of euros.
The General Court of the European Union is the second in line in Europe, which means that Google can pursue a new appeal and appeal again to supreme court of luxembourg. A statement from the company states that Android “has created more choice for everyone, not less, and supports thousands of successful businesses in Europe and around the world».
