Google Pixel 3 / Pixel 3 XL: Officially with bigger screens, powerful cameras and wireless charging

After many leaks and revelations, Google has introduced the new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL with high-end technical features that will satisfy even the most demanding users who want a flagship from Google that will meet their needs.

Ξstarting from the screens, the Pixel 3 XL comes with a 6.3 ”OLED QHD + screen (2960 x 1440, 532ppi, 18.5: 9) and the Pixel 3 with a 5.5” OLED FHD + screen (2160 x 1080). Both are Gorilla Glass 5 coated, support HDR content and receive certification YouTube Signature Device, while coming with Always On and various coloring modes. In more detail, Always On mode constantly displays the song being played, while Boosted mode displays 10% more colors compared to the sRGB protocol.

Regarding the batteries, the Pixel 3 XL comes with a capacity of 3430mAh and the Pixel 3 with 2915mAh. They support wireless charging and with the Pixel Stand you charge at 10W, while the wired charger included in the box is much more powerful at 18W for 7 hours of life with a 15-minute charge. In addition, the Pixel Stand makes it possible to use the smartphone as a Google Home, as a digital photo frame and as an alarm clock.

We also move on to the cameras where nothing has changed on the back. A 12.2MP sensor with 1.4μm pixel size and f/1.8 aperture lens has been installed. The new features concern HDR+ support and various Artificial Intelligence functions, such as Top Shop, Photobooth, Super Res Zoom, etc. Soon the Night Sight function will come with a related software update for shooting in low light conditions without flash. For video capture, the company has incorporated Fused Video Stabilization technology for smoother shots when the subject moves in the frame.

  • Top Shot: Allows the user to shoot multiple frames by pressing the shutter button and then Artificial Intelligence selects the best shots taking into account smiles, open eyes and looking at the camera.
  • Photobooth: Helps users take better selfies and choose the best shot. It can also be used to automatically take a photo when the device is placed on a flat surface. When Photobooth is activated, the Pixel 3 will automatically take a photo when you smile, when you make funny faces, when you wink and at the same time it will examine which shots are the best.
  • Super res zoom: It works much like AI-zoom, ie Artificial Intelligence recognizes the download script and automatically selects when to zoom in on the object.
  • Wide angle selfie: As the name suggests, this feature will allow you to take selfies with a wider field of view to fit more in the frame.
  • Subject tracking AF: The autofocus system will automatically adjust to the subject selected by the user to keep it in the frame while moving

Where we have significant changes is in the front camera. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have two 8MP sensors, one with a 97 ° fixed focus lens with f / 2.2 aperture and the other with a normal 75 ° lens with PDAF autofocus and f / 1.8 aperture. Stabilization in video capture is done purely digitally and not with technology Fused Video Stabilization.

In terms of sound, both have stereo speakers on the front. You won't find a 3.5mm headphone jack, but at least Google has provided the new Pixel USB Type-C earbuds with built-in digital assistant Google Assistant for processing voice commands, reciting and dictating messages, but also real-time translation! A USB Type-C to 3.5mm converter is also included for those who want to use traditional headphones.

In terms of hardware we find the Snapdragon 845 SoC with the powerful cores clocked at 2.5GHz and the smaller ones at 1.6GHz, 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage without the possibility of expansion with microSD. Also, the fingerprint sensor remains centrally on the back.

Finally, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are IP68 certified for water and dust protection.
