Νearlier in the week, Google has announced that it will start charging Android device makers in case they wish to offer their customers in Europe the Google Play Store and its other services, except Google Search and Google Chrome, pre-installed.
Now, The Verge website is coming to shed more light on the case and revealing to us how much it will cost for each device separately. The report cites a confidential document leaked by Google and mentions three different charging zones in Europe.
The biggest cost will be for Android smartphones and tablets that will be sold in Germany, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. In these countries, smartphones with a pixel density of more than 500ppi on the screen will be charged $ 40 each to bring Google's services and app store pre-installed.
As the pixel density decreases, so does the cost. Indicatively, a device with 400-500ppi on the screen will be charged $ 20, while devices with less than 400ppi will be charged $ 10 and entry-level devices only $ 2.50. As for the tablets, the cost will be $ 20 for each device and covers all the countries of the European Union.
This measure with the extra charge will be valid from February 1, 2019 and there may be various loopholes and exceptions for a construction company to save the extra cost, but at the same time to comply with EU rules.
