With the action “White areas" 160.869 households in 4.079 Settlements that were not covered by television gain access to it free of charge for a period of eight years, through a very simple process, as the ministry states in a relevant announcement.
In particular, the beneficiaries can up to 15 July 2021 apply digitally on the page white-areas.gov.gr, without the obligation to attach or submit supporting documents, as the required data are obtained through interoperability by the competent Services. At the same time, the possibility of service from the local KEP is maintained, always without the presentation of supporting documents. In this case, only the Police Identity Card and the eleven-digit Electricity Supply Number of the beneficiary are required.
The general coordination of the action is the responsibility of the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Posts of the Ministry of Digital Government, while the implementing body of the project is the National Network of Technology and Research Infrastructures - EDYTE SA (GRNET). During the electronic submission of the application, the data of the main and permanent residence of the interested party are extracted from his databases. DEDDIE and AADE through the Interoperability Center of the General Secretariat of Information Systems of Public Administration of the Ministry of Digital Government.

Now, without bureaucracy and unnecessary travel, citizens of remote and inaccessible areas will be able to access the Greek national free-to-air television stations, as well as to any regional free-to-air television stations broadcast by the provider of their choice. As part of the action, both access and the equipment guarantee are provided free of charge for a period of eight years.
In this way, access to pluralism, information and entertainment is ensured for all citizens, while the principles of technological neutrality are observed, as the provision of television content through action can be provided through all available technologies (satellite, terrestrial, broadband). The total amount of the action is expected to reach 25 million euros.
It is recalled that the legislative framework for "White Areas", Was radically revised by the Law 4727/20 for Digital Governance and Electronic Communications, which was voted overwhelmingly last September. Under the new framework, the procedure for including beneficiaries in the program has been significantly simplified. At the same time, the settlements increased by 492 (from 3587 to 4079 in total) whose inhabitants are now provided with the opportunity to access the Greek national free-to-air television stations, by receiving a public subsidy.
Further, the guarantee for the provided equipment was increased from two to eight years, while clear deadlines were also set for the providers to process the citizens' applications, with the possibility of switching an application to an alternative provider, in order to avoid trapping the citizens in a waiting state. of their application.
