New series of economical SSDs from Crucial

ΜWith SSD prices dropping too much in recent months, more and more people are choosing them over traditional hard drives. This creates new opportunities for SSD manufacturers, who are constantly announcing new models, many of which aim to provide another affordable solution to new buyers. One such series is Crucial's new BX500 series.

The BX500 series includes models with capacities of 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB, in the form of 2,5 ”storage medium with SATA III connection. Crucial has chosen to use Micron 3D NAND flash memory and the performance reported for the BX500 is what one would expect from a good SATA III SSD, ie both read and write speeds of 500MB / sec and above.

There are also various technologies that we often see in this type of SSDs, such as multi-stage data integrity algorithm, temperature monitoring, SLC for acceleration of records, active garbage collection, TRIM support, SMART technology to find out the status of the SSD and ECC support for error correction. However, they do not appear to have DRAM, but rely solely on SLC caching to achieve the reported maximum performance.

The new BX500s are immediately available with Crucial reporting prices for the 120GB, 240GB and 480GB models at $ 30, $ 50 and $ 90 respectively.
