In this case, Apple used a second-generation lithograph 5nm to build the ARM architecture processor. This allowed the company to increase the number of transistors within the chip by 20% compared to m1 chip, made with the previous generation lithograph 5nm.
That's it M2 SoC still uses an octa-core CPU, with four cores focusing on intensive processes and four cores focusing on background processes, consuming less power. The higher transistor density allows the M2 to offer better performance than the M1, without increasing power consumption.
According to Apple benchmarks, the M2 SoC offers 18% better CPU performance, compared to its predecessor. The company also claims that M2 can beat the ten-core Intel Core i7-1255U found in laptops, using only 1/4 of its power. In terms of graphics, the M2 has a ten-core GPU, which offers at 38% better performance on video editing, in relation to the M1.
The new MacBook Air includes two more improvements compared to the older model. It has 1.080p webcam, versus its predecessor 720p camera. Apple also added MagSafe charger, so you do not have to rely solely on USB-C port for charging.
In addition, the new macbook air has a slightly larger screen on 13.6 inches. The webcam is housed in a notch, similar to what we saw on last year's 14-inch MacBook Pro.
For the first time, users will be able to choose a layout with 24GB single memory. However, the cost of the base model has increased to $1.199. The 2020 model with the M1 processor will continue to be sold at the same price, ie $ 999 (€ 1.179 in Greece). The laptop will be available in four different finishes: silver, starlight, space gray, and midnight.
