ΠAlthough Google failed to report the status of its Android distribution for a few months, the latest statistics for the end of August are now available. The usual trend continues - as most of the older versions of Android are reduced in numbers as opposed to the newer versions.
Compared to last month, the Oreo 8,0 and 8,1 increased by more than two percentage points (from 12,1% to 14,6%), which is probably directly related to the recently sold Oreo devices. Interestingly, the numbers for Nougat 7.0 and 7.1 are exactly the same, although there is a slight drop in android 7,0 devices and an upward trend of 7.1 compared to July. In any case, Nougat's share remains stable at 30,8%.
Also, Google does not show Android versions that have less than 0,1% distribution, which probably explains why we do not see any for Android 9,0 in the charts. After all, only the Essantial PH-1, Sony Xperia XZ3, Xiaomi Mi-Mix 2S and Google Pixel phones have received the latest version of the operating system.
Marshmallow fell from 23,5% to 22,7% - a small difference - and the same goes for Lollipop devices - from 20,4% to 19,2%. The other versions seem to have leveled off without a significant difference between the July and August distributions.
There are also interesting statistics on screen size and pixel density that will definitely be useful for developers who want to further optimize their UI according to trends. See the charts below for more information.
