Today we are going to take a look at the Xiaomi devices that presented the most significant problems, with damage at the hardware level

H Xiaomi is known for the very good Smartphones it manufactures, which combine quality construction, good hardware specifications and friendly prices. However, there are also some exceptions to the rule, since some Smartphones have been released from time to time that have suffered chronic damage and that have troubled many of their users.

The biggest failure was for what Xiaomi Smartphones were equipped with IPS screen from Tianma, which presented a high risk of causing the well-known phantom screen problem (Ghost Screen). But from time to time various other serious problems arose with some devices, which came from defective Hardware or bad design, which mandated the repair or replacement of the device by the service centers the company's.

So, below we will take a look at the devices that presented the most significant problems, with hardware-level failures that cannot be fixed with a Software Update (software update) through the MIUI ROM distributions.

Xiaomi phones with chronic failures

The reason why some of the Xiaomi Smartphones may have serious problems is:

  • The phone was released in a hurry
  • The phone has been mass produced without proper testing
  • The phone has a flawed design to begin with
  • A problem escaped Xiaomi's testing labs
  • And much more…

But let's see below, some of the most serious cases of problems that most troubled the owners of the dishes.

The phones with IPS screen panels from Tianma.

Almost it 75% of the problems recorded with the IPS screen of phones, come from devices equipped with screen panel from Tianma. These devices show a problem called "Ghost Screen" or as we say in Greek "ghost screen", which looks a bit like burn-in on AMOLED screens, and it really is very annoying.

Most of the users of Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 8 reported that they had display panels from Tianma, and after long hours of use their device screens started showing the ghost screen problem. Xiaomi has not yet resolved this issue and is still using Tianma's panels in its devices entry-level and in the middle price category.

Below is the list of phones that have experienced this issue:

  • Redmi Note 8
  • Redmi Note 7
  • Redmi Note 5
  • Mi A2(6X)
  • Its latest models Xiaomi/Redmi (or POCO) that have IPS screen by Tianma.

Xiaomi gradually reduced the number of phones in which it used IPS panels from Tianma and supplied AMOLED display panels to devices belonging to the mid-range and flagships.

Most of the devices Xiaomi/Redmi (or POCO) they now have AMOLED displays, which are still likely to have the common problems that AMOLED panels present, such as Burn-In and green tint.

Defective side fingerprint sensors

Some of the Xiaomi/Redmi devices with side-mounted fingerprint sensor often have some problem in the flexible ribbon cable, resulting in the fingerprint sensor not working properly.

The phones that have shown this problem are:

  • Redmi Note 9T
  • Notes redmi 9 Pro
  • Redmi Notes 9S

These three phones often had these issues, which were fixed later in the series Redmi Note 10. Redmi has faced a lot of issues with its fingerprint sensors, and the phones in its range Redmi Note 9 it was the most problematic, forcing many to buy new flex cables for the fingerprint sensor from abroad to fix the problem themselves.

The Mi 8 with the problematic WiFi Chip.

Xiaomi's Mi 8 was a flagship of 2018, launched with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. It was an excellent flagship that shared many design similarities with the iPhone X by Apple which was released at the time, and was called the "The iPhone X of Android». The reason is that the My 8 was one of the first phones to have facial recognition with an infrared sensor, which was called “3D Face ID» on iPhone devices.

The phone was very good in its day, but it had one huge flaw with the WiFi chip. It has been reported by many owners of the device, people that WiFi stopped working suddenly and there was no way to fix it, because simply the Chip responsible for WiFi was permanently damaged.

The POCO M3 and the big sudden death problem

The majority of its users POCO M3 stated that once it turned off for some reason (mainly due to low battery), it was never able to turn on again.

This is the worst that can happen to a device, creating many problems in its name POCO. The POCO M3 was a real disaster for the company, and after its catastrophic failure POCO M3The POCO began testing its devices much more intensively before releasing them. The POCO M3 it was a big lesson-lesson for the company, and probably the worst Smartphone with the most records of chronic failures.

The Mi 9T/Pro and the pop-up Selfie camera.

The I 9T / Pro they were two great devices, but at the same time Xiaomi's worst phones with chronic failures. The their motorized pop-up Selfie cameras allow the display to have a screen-to-body ratio 100%, however at I 9T / Pro if the pop-up camera caught dust on the inside, it could never be opened again. The only solution to this problem was to open the back of the phone and try to clean the dust.

Maybe Xiaomi didn't do much testing on the engineering – pop-up Selfie camera of this device, and that's why it failed I 9T / Pro.

The Mi 9 with a defective PMIC.

The My 9 it was also one of the best phones released along with its series Xiaomi Mi 9T, and the Mi 9 it was the company's flagship for that period. But unfortunately it was revealed that the device had faulty PMIC (Power Module).

The result was that almost all its users Mi 9, reported that if they use the camera for more than 10 minutes, the phone will start to heat up and drain the battery very quickly. In fact, most of the users could not have video chats on their devices mainly because of this issue alone.

So, Xiaomi's Mi 9 is also one of the company's phones with chronic failures that are bad for the company's name itself.

The conclusion

Η Xiaomi has come a long way in recent years and still makes great quality devices like its recent range Xiaomi 12S and 13 with her support Leica on camera lenses.

Xiaomi puts a lot of emphasis on the quality of its devices, while at the same time Redmi has released many quality devices combined with an excellent price/performance ratio. The line Redmi K50 it was just the beginning of the company's remarkable turnaround in the quality of its devices.

But unfortunately for her devices POCO we cannot say the same. The POCO M3 it was the worst device ever released based on the issues it encountered, and the series POCO X4 it doesn't seem to have enjoyed the sales success it had in its turn POCO X3. Its future POCO doesn't seem to be that bright, and it's certain that Xiaomi is not willing to let the same thing happen again after the fiasco that happened with the POCO M3.

The correct conclusion:
The first series of the company (eg mi 1 to 7) are not shown in the list.
Back then xiaomi was also cheaper than today (much cheaper than the competition) and did not discount the quality of the devices it released. So as a company grows, it deviates from the right goals....
